It's
been a long time since I last spoke here on the blog about Fire and Flesh, but
these Americans have returned with their next single, The Art of Living.
One
of the aspects that usually gets my attention while listening to bands is the
fact that their sound progresses as time goes by and the different styles they
can develop with years of experience and new influences that shape their sound
towards something new and different.
In
the case of Fire and Flesh and their single, The Art of Living, I notice a much more mature and consolidated
sound, especially when listening to the work on the guitar during the
introduction of the song; it has that classic touch, but at the same time it
shows a desire of the group to go forward and try new directions with their
sound.
The
vocals are brutal, but with attitude and power, which is something that many
bands tend to ignore. The chorus it’s very clear, finding a more than necessary
balance between aggressiveness and melody, something that many extreme bands do
not usually find. Remember: it's not just about being aggressive, but doing it
with purpose.
I
like the rhythm changes that we find in the song, which is something that I
think they have managed to improve compared to the last album I reviewed about
them. The work on the drums remains accelerated and powerful, perfectly
complementing the guitar, which is undoubtedly the best part of the whole song.
From
the perspective of being published as a single, I think it is a very good
option because it has a lot of aggressiveness, but at the same time it has a
more accessible and melodic mood that seems to me the most appropriate for this
type of releases.
In
general, Fire and Flesh are showing that they are a band in constant
development and The Art of Living
shows details that only a group that is in full growth and development can
deliver.
